Population demographic and mortality data

In order to assess the coverage of the follow-up and the extent to which the cohort represents the general population, data on the annual population sizes and mortality in the MORGAM Reporting Units (RU) should be provided by the MPCs to the MDC. The data on the size of population and the numbers of deaths, derived from the routine census or vital registration system, should be provided for each calendar year of the follow-up period using the relevant MONICA data transfer format. Excel versions of the forms, including data transfer instructions can be downloaded here:

• Population demographics reporting form
  • to be used for all RUs for all years
• Annual population mortality reporting form (ICD-8)
  • to be used for all RUs and relevant sexes in the years when ICD-8 was in use
• Annual population mortality reporting form (ICD-9)
  • to be used for all RUs and relevant sexes in the years when ICD-9 was in use
• Annual population mortality reporting form (ICD-10)
  • to be used for all RUs and relevant sexes in the years when ICD-10 was in use

Alternatively, if the data are available locally in a database, the following data transfer formats can be used:

• Data transfer format: annual population demographics data
• Data transfer format: annual population mortality data

For the MONICA RUs these data are already available in the MDC for the MONICA periods and do not need to be transferred again.
