Aim of the seminar is to present and discuss current international strategies for prevention and control of chronic noncommunicable diseases (NCD) to make participants familiar with the Finnish experiences from the North Karelia Project and to train in planning, implementation and evaluation of NCD prevention interventions: 'from theory to practice'.
See the brochure of the NCD seminar.
The seminar is aimed at health professionals and health authorities working with national and local programmes for NCD prevention and
health promotion.
The seminar combines medical and social behavioural theories with practical examples of NCD prevention programmes and strategies. The participants will reflect the lectures with the situation in their own country and each afternoon some of these cases will be discussed.
Several WHO and other international strategies (including the WHO/EURO European Strategy for the Prevention and Control of Noncommunicable diseases) will serve as background together with the Finnish strategies.
The seminar is based on the experiences from applications and international perspectives, like the North Karelia project and its national WHO CINDI programme. A two-day visit to different sites in North Karelia is included in the programme.
Monday to Wednesday programmes take place at the National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL), Mannerheimintie 166, 00270 Helsinki. On Wednesday evening we shall take train to Joensuu in North Karelia where the seminar will end on Friday afternoon.
Participation fee of 600€ includes seminar materials, lunches and refreshments. Travel and accommodation both in Helsinki and in Joensuu are at own cost. Please pay also full amount of bank expenses.
