Blood pressure

Unhealthy lifestyle increases the risk for elevated blood pressure. High salt intake, unhealthy diet, overweight and sedentary lifestyle are most common reasons for elevated blood pressure. High alcohol intake may also raise blood pressure.

  • Ideal blood pressure under 120/80 mmHg
  • Normal blood pressure under 130/85 mmHg
  • Satisfactory blood pressure under 130-139/85-89 mmHg
  • Elevated blood pressure over 140/90 mmHg
  • Blood pressure (systolic blood pressure shown in figures) has decreased in both areas in men and women excepted from 2002 to 2007 during which there is a slight increase in blood pressure in both areas among both genders.
  • Blood pressure is higher in Pitkäranta compared to North Karelia among both genders.
  • Blood pressure is markedly lower in women in both areas.
